DAD AND DAUGHTERS -- STREET PHOTOGRAPHY

Today's trip to downtown Portland was to pick up some groceries from Whole Food Grocery -- of course I had my camera with me. I spotted this smiling dad with his two daughters who was entertaining them while confining them to a  public bench as traffic whizzed by them.

I spoke with him briefly as I could see he had his hands full with his two beautiful and delightful daughters. The one daughter instantly told me she was four and the dad told me the other was two.

The dad and daughters were waiting for mom who was in a nearby store. In the meantime dad was keeping them smiling and safe. Good dad!

  1. What a great topic! My (step) dad is my hero. If a dad can make a girl feel that way he has done his job.

    1. ditchingthe dog --what a beautiful compliment for your step-dad. I have a gut feeling that the father in the above photo is on his way to being one of those wonderful dads. thanks -- barbara

    1. John -- He looked like he had his hands full when I took these photos -- what a happy bunch they were. Of course a handful of innocent children compared to teenagers is altogether different. thanks -- barbara

  3. Good dad indeed. I've always had hunting dogs (Chesapeake Bay Retrievers) and now GSD's so I'm partial to them as family dogs. Females are smaller of course and actually easier to handle....:)

    1. troutbirder -- Chesapeake Bay Retriever's are wonderful as are German Shepherds. I had a German Shepard when my children were just tots and he was fantastic with them. I agree that female dogs seem to have a more nurturing behavior. I wouldn't mind having a German Shepard again if she was small enough for me to handle. thanks for your input -- barbara

  4. Sweet photos! Looks like a happy family - and a sunny day in Portland! (I'm envious - can't wait to visit that city, and do love visiting Whole Foods and Trader Joes, rare treats for us that require a day's drive!)

    1. Laloofah -- Yes, they were a sweet bunch to photograph. Fun to meet folks with my camera. My favorite new store to buy organic foods at is called Food Front in the Hillsdale neighborhood of Portland. Of course I buy at three different organic stores as I have not found one that carries everything that I want. I have never been to a Trader Joes. Will have to see if there are any near me -- thanks for the comment -- barbara

  5. Happy girls and happy dad! Lovely to see.

I have turned into a cat person but I do dogsit for my daughter and SIL when they go out of town. Their dog is an elderly cocker spaniel who is just a person with 4 legs and long ears.

    1. Florence -- Like your description of your SIL's cocker, "a person with four legs." Many dogs assume that description after living with persons a while. I like cats too. I guess it's a matter of what you are used too -- I have had dogs around me most of my life. Thanks for your comment -- barbara

  6. Dear Barbara,
Happy, Happy Happy & Hope for the World!! In my work I encounter such loving families & it does my heart good!! I'm glad you had such a nice encounter. You are a part of this joy.
PS I know Whole Foods is a big box, etc., but I love that store. The nearest one to me is now 100 miles away!

    1. Rita -- Yes , Whole Foods is big box but I too still like to pick up a few things there (few?). There are also two smaller organic grocery stores near me. Both are non-box and offer local food such as delicious raw goats milk from a local farm. Really fun to shop at stores that provide small farms the ability to survive while giving us wholesome food. Yes, the dad and kids were all smiles and so cute. Enjoyed taking the photos. thanks -- barbara
