A BOY AND HIS HORSE

Last week, I was in a store when I noticed a woman lifting up a small boy onto one of those mechanical horses. You know,  the ones that are sometimes found in the front of retail places but usually in grocery stores. They have been around a long time -- my kids loved to ride them when they were small.

I quickly asked the woman, who turned out to be the boy's grandmother,  if I could take some photos of the cute guy while he rode his horse.  "Sure," she replied.

HOLDING TIGHT

So she waited while I pulled the camera out of my case and took aim. Then she told her grandson to hold tight as the horsey was going to take him for a ride. She dropped the quarter in the affixed metal  slot -- the horse lurched a little, then the little buckaroo took off galloping over his imaginary hills.

WHOA!

HEY, THIS IS FUN

A joyous ride for a mere quarter

HAPPY HALLOWEEN TO ALL THE BIG AND LITTLE KIDS

    1. I do think western bars have life size mechanical broncos that I am sure you would not like as the test is to stay on the wild bucking horse. -- thanks for the comment -- barbara

    1. claggle -- Both my daughters and sons loved this pony ride when they were young. It really warms your heart to see the glee they get from such a ride -- worth a quarter -- thanks for stopping -- barbara

  5. My greatgrandson is about that age -- he has a photo taking mama. The intensity is the part we adults envy. We seldom simply enter into a momentary event so completely.

    1. June -- so glad to hear from you, I was a little concerned you would be close to Sandy's big storm. I imagine you got the wind. We got wind in KY -- it has calmed down some today. Agree with you -- it is the intensity that we envy. Children can teach us to live in the moment if we aware. thanks for the wise words -- barbara

  6. I remember my boy's riding those! They were serious about it, as if the horse was real. I can still remember their faces. Thanks for the memory, Barbara.

    1. Granny Sue -- Children faces are so innocent and can fill with delight so easily. They are our precious gems. Glad it rekindled your memories.

  7. That was a whole lot of fun for a quarter. A quarter's worth of fun has got to be the best fun because your expectations aren't very high.

    1. marcia -- I think that the horse rides were a nickel back when my children were riding the broncos. A store names Meijers was the only store that had the horses way back then. They knew if they (I had four small ones) were good in the store that they would be riding that horse before they left. -- thanks for the comment -- barbara

  8. Thank you, Barbara, for capturing and sharing a child's happiness. There's nothing that compares to a child's facial expressions when doing something fun and silly. Happy Halloween.

    1. Nature Weaver -- Happy Halloween to you too. Just bought myself an organic dark chocolate candy bar to celebrate the occasion. I live far off the beaten track and in the five years I have been here I have not had any Halloween kids. -- thanks -- barbara
