BUDDIES

SAL (SALLIE TOMATO) AND LIL (LILLY PAD)
Lil entered my life seven years ago as an adopted critter. She and I hit it off immediately -- she liked to travel in the truck as did I. We traveled to the southeast, Rockies, and states in between finally settling in Kentucky to live for the last four years.

She died of natural causes yesterday aged thirteen years.

She left me with great memories and lots of laughs.

Her buddy was Sal my male golden -- he missed her today.

  1. I never know what to say when someone loses a pet. They leave such a big hole.

Here is a little story for you...

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

You can go leave her name here at the Rainbow Bridge website. I put my cat's name there in 2005. I still miss her. http://www.petloss.com/frames/fbrdglst.htm

    (((hugs)))

  2. How nice that you had Lil for a traveling companion all of these years. Smile on her face as you traversed all of life's ups and downs. Constant friend, always there for you with a wag of her tail. That is what I love about dogs. They take you for you and for where you are on life's journey. May you always smile in memory of her. So sorry for your loss...Darcy

  8. Birdie -- Lil had a good life of which I am thankful. When I see dogs being abused I cringe. Where I live it is not uncommon to see this. Thanks for your nice words. -- barbara

  11. Mary Ann -- Losing a "buddy" is in many ways similar to losing a family member. She was a loving dog that taught me some things about life. I know that you still miss your buddy even though some months have passed. Thanks for the nice words -- barbara

  13. Grampy -- You are so right. Sal is missing Lil -- animals do miss their playmates that they have been with for a long time. I am giving Sal lots of pats and hugs even though we can't really talk to each other. I think this helps. Thanks for the insightful comment -- barbara

  15. It's always so hard to lose a member of the family, like Lil. I'm glad that you and she found each other, and were able to make part of life's journey together. The joy we experience with our animals more than make up for the pain of knowing that we are going to see them go on their last journey before we do, I think.

  22. Louise - You are so right -- we took fabulous journeys together -- she rode shot-gun on the passenger seat and would quietly sneak into many no/dog hotel rooms across the country. We had good times. Thanks Louise for your beautiful words -- barbara

  25. So sad, so sorry. I can definitely relate. No dog can ever replace another. No comparisons, one to another, work. It is their uniqueness that delights.

  31. I just came over to see what's been going on and find you've lost a companion. I can hardly bare to think of losing my little buddy. It must be hard, but I suppose as the time draws nearer we can get somewhat prepared. We never really know until they're gone, I suppose, the place they filled in our lives. I trust you and Sal will find comfort in each other. My condolences for your loss.

  32. Teresa -- Such warm words -- we can prepare but still not be prepared. But I believe in the cycle of life and know it is part of the universe that life ebbs and flows -- we must move forward -- Thanks -- barbara
