RETIRED SIGN
An old wooden sign with hand lettering sits in back of the volunteer fire department in Paint Lick, Kentucky. Once it hung on the front of the building. But now a new sign has taken its place -- announcing -- the Paint Lick/Cartersville Fire Department.
Change happens.
Yup, and most of that change is good. But, it can sometimes be hard to get used to.
ReplyDeleteI like Louise's upbeat attitude! Barbara, you surely have an eye for a good rural picture.
ReplyDeleteSheeeeeeeeeeeesh! Put the old one back up.
ReplyDeleteI noticed the fire department in my borough replaced its old sign with a new one out front and they proudly hung the old sign up inside the fire department along the back wall. I wonder if Paint Lick would consider doing the same thing. It would be a shame to let a piece of their history get ruined sitting on the ground outside.
ReplyDeleteBirdman and Darcy -- I agree with you both -- put it up again -- somewhere! A good place would be on the interior wall of their building if they feel they need the Cartersville name on the outside sign. I should have taken a photo of the new sign -- its black and white with plain lettering. -- barbara
ReplyDeleteSheri -- Thanks for the nice comment. I'm afraid someone is going to snatch that old wooden sign and there goes the volunteer department's history. -- barbara
ReplyDeleteLouise -- Some change is good -- some not so good. Darcy and Birdman made a good suggestion. Thanks -- barbara
ReplyDeleteAh, so Paint Lick is the name of a place. I was trying to figure out which was the verb.
ReplyDeleteSuch history in that old sign.
ReplyDeleteTowanda -- People not from these parts, as the locals say, find the name of Paint Lick quite odd. So I can understand your confusion. -- barbara
ReplyDeleteFarmchick -- Lots of history that's for sure -- Thanks -- barbara
ReplyDeleteI bet 'The Pickers' would like to get a hold of that sign. :o)
