TINY COTTAGE WITH BLUE SHUTTERS

Found this sweetheart of a cottage on one of the main roads through Aurora, Oregon. It's just the right size for one person to live in or perhaps could be used as a studio/workshop for some talented artist. I called this place a cottage in the post's title because that is how I saw it. Whatever its use it added to the historic ambiance of the road on which it was located.

Located in the gable of the cottage was this
window insert of antique carmel glass.

  2. What a darling tiny house! I don't think I have ever seen glass like that; I need to google "carmel glass" to learn more about it. The little house reminds me of my home town, Galveston. When I was growing up there, there were many houses that had a tiny house in the back for Grandma or for newlyweds needing a place to stay. I don't think there are many of them left now after Hurricane Ike several years ago though.

    1. Florence -- Hope you were able to find out about the carmel glass. There was a little town near where I lived when I was younger that had small houses on many of their lots. They were built by parents after WWII -- to house soldier sons with new wives on their property. thanks -- barbara

  4. Charming little house. And the hollyhocks outside are just the prefect touch. I hope the resident is as serene as the cottage looks. Or perhaps, as you say, it is an artist's studio with a little daybed upstairs for naps.

  8. Hi Barbara! It's a darling little cottage. I would love to have a little studio/sanctuary like that in the garden. And I would surround it with cottage flowers - hollyhocks, roses, peonies.......sigh...... :)

    1. Starr - Your idea of a studio/sanctuary is one that many folks would love to have. The idea reminds me of Virginia Wolfe's book, "A Room of Ones Own." You paint a lovely picture of how you would treat your studio. -- thanks -- barbara

  10. I like your photograph of the cottage. It looks very inviting, and the caramel windows would give a really warm light to the room. Very enticing - you have made me curious to what lies beyond that door!

    1. claggle -- Never thought about it but yes I imagine the carmel glass gives a nice tint to the natural light that comes in through the window. As with many photos of houses that I photograph I can only use my imagination as to what is inside. But one's imagination can be very creative.

  12. It looked like a fabulous doll's house from the time when someone made them themselves. My (now) grown-up daughters would have loved it.

    1. RuneE -- Often I have heard folks refer to houses like this as a doll house. It does rather look like one. Small houses are seldom built today -- zoning regulations are against them. Those type of regulations seem silly. thanks for your comment -- barbara
