MORNING BREAKING

Morning breaks soft in the fall. Chilly air contrasts with the white fire of the sun as it floods through my woods. I sit at my old work table in solitude and think about the new day. What will it bring? How can I shape it? I am on a path of simplicity. My world  opens up to me for yet another day.

Here is a poem by Virginia Woolf that fits my mood today;

How much better is silence; the
coffee cup, the table. How much better to
sit by myself like the solitary sea-bird
that opens its wings on the stake. Let me
sit here forever with bare things, this
coffee cup, this knife, this fork, things in
themselves, myself being myself.

    1. turquoisemoon -- thanks for your generous comments, especially on my birdbath. As you might know my home is for sale. When it sells, I will dearly miss the privacy and beauty of this place. However, I find life is a continuous shifting of great oportunities. -- barbara

  2. This is one of the most beautiful posts I've read anywhere in quite a while. The simplicity speaks directly to where I find myself in this very moment. Eloquent and elegant in its simplicity and I love the Woolf quote.

    1. Teresa -- Your kind comments are appreciated. I too especially like the Woolf quote. I find that sometimes reading a phase or a short piece of prose can open my mind to hundreds of thoughts. You say you find yourself in this moment -- I think it is a good place to be. -- barbara

  3. Thank you for that poem. I often feel this way, too, but I didn't know someone had said it so elegantly and simply.

    1. June -- I too was taken by her poem. I read it somewhere about two weeks ago. I wrote it down and it has been on my work-table ever since. I remembered her words this morning as I walked around outside. It seemed everything fit with my thoughts so I came in, sat at my table, and wrote the post. I appreciate that Ms Woolf wrote it as I found it inspirational. And thanks to you too June -- barbara

  4. I so much relate to this poem. Since I started working again I pretty much spend my weekends alone, by choice. I love the freedom that quiet gives.

  5. I, too, can immerse myself in the quotation you share. Another of Virginia Woolf's quotes that I like is, "No need to hurry. No need to sparkle. No need to be anybody but oneself."

    1. Nature Weaver -- I like the quote by Woolf that you included in your comment. Sometimes I feel we have two worlds, the fast and furious as opposed to the calm and practical. thanks -- barbara
