EGGS IN A GLASS JAR

Photography became a real interest to to me when I began blogging in 2008. I started with a point and shoot camera that my eastern daughter gave me for Christmas. From that little camera I became hooked on photography. I started devouring books on photography and watching online photography videos. This eventually led me to buying a new Rebel T3i camera that required me to practice  the tricks of using it. Then my son gave me a Nikkon Coolpix that is smaller than my Rebel but is great when it comes to capturing subjects -- good for on the go use.

Anything goes when I am shooting. As an example, I took the above photo of farm eggs a few days ago. My son had put the above eggs in Kerr canning jars as they took up little space on the fridge shelf. When I saw them sitting in the fridge I brought them out to a window ledge where they reflected the sunlight. To me they looked rather funky in the jars. I snapped their photos about 20 times before I got the one and only that I liked.

I have found that photography is about your eye and your feelings as well as the mechanics of using your camera. I don't pretend that I will ever be a famous photographer Why would I do that --  when I am having so much fun just playing with my cameras.

A BARN, A HORSE AND SPRING

A lovely red barn in Madison County.

Although yesterday was rather chilly and blustery, I felt that spring was in the air. I packed up my camera and hit the trail. Found lots of good material for my camera and talked with some of the country folks I met along the way. Southerns are some of the nicest folks.

Today I even met a horse at one of my stops along a back-country road. It seems that horses are always interested in what I am doing when I stop by their pasture. Today this one was even giving me low sounding snorts -- whatever that means in horse language.

Got home late -- just as the sun was setting in a rosy colored sky. Soon it was dark and I heard a large flock of migrating Canadian geese flying overhead. I stepped out on my front porch and listened quietly to their honking as they flew north over my home.

A nice ending to a beautiful spring day.

A beautiful spirited horse checking out what I'm doing with that black box I keep putting up to my face.

RAINSTORM PUDDLES

Leaf-boat sailing in a rainstorm puddle on my driveway

Last night I woke to the sounds of thunder and noticed lightning flashing outside my bedroom window. It was a mellow storm compared to some that we have had lately. I closed my eyes and disappeared back into my sleep. I awoke perhaps an hour later and it was still storming outside.

I felt snug in my bed and lay awake remembering as a child how I delighted in storms that brought puddles to our neighborhood. Yes, puddles. As a child, with my friends, we would beg our mothers to let us walk barefoot along the sides of our street where rain water had accumulated. Our goal was to splash each other from these shallow puddles. Such simple fun.

Early this morning, after the rain had stopped, I looked outside at the overcast skies. Then I looked at my driveway and saw --  puddles. They looked rather blah from my window. But wait. Weren't my thoughts last night about having fun with puddles as a child. Hmm -- maybe mine aren't so blah. Out the door I went with my camera.

Mystical forest illusion reflected in my
rainstorm puddle by nearby maple trees.

I found that my camera had a child's eye. From my camera I discovered illusionary patterns that I could not see from my window. I realized that with camera in hand -- puddles can still be fun.
