MOODS OF WINTER

MYSTICAL RIDGES RISING

Today I woke to a softhearted falling  snow. It quickly encapsulated my country place in  a dream like gauze. I could feel its many moods.  I stepped outside and attempted to capture a bit of it here on my post.

  3. Beautiful! Especially the first picture.

As I write snow is falling outside but it's not the kind to make that sort of beauty, and we don't have those distant ridges.

  6. Hi Dianne -- Thanks -- I too love the birdhouse. I have had it for 25 years. My deceased father gave it to me to celebrate a centennial year in Michigan. That is where my father lived all his life. It has seen few years outdoors so it is still in good shape. But I have decided that this will be its last year in the weather. Its future will be someplace inside. -- barbara

  7. June -- Thanks for the comment about the snow. I know that snow is a popular subject on posts and I had made up my mind not to post about it as so many have such professional looking shots of it. However, the snow was so magical this morning that my camera jumped into my hands and I found myself outside clicking away. -- barbara

  9. Lady Jane -- Thanks for stopping by. Snow can be so beautiful. I'm glad you enjoyed the painted ladies. I visited your nice blog and noticed that you liked miniatures. Here are two links to Mehitable Days blog -- she has a couple great posts on miniatures:

  17. Mama-Bug -- Usually the rocker does not get snow. It is on my front porch but the snow had a small whisper of wind that pushed a bit of snow onto the rocker. Thanks for the comment -- barbara

  18. Kass -- My dogs have been romping in the snow most of the day. I think most dogs love snow but many humans are a bit tired of it as we have had so much lately. But it really is lovely like you say. -- barbara

  22. Laloofah -- thanks for the kind words. I thought your miniatures collection would be of interest to
Lady Jane. She collects minatures. I think your Santa's Workshop is fabulous especially as it was put together by your parents.

  24. What beautiful images of a beautiful place. They made me nostalgic for some country places I've lived in during the snowy season. Your blog is so healing.

  25. Gaea -- You are very observant. I have lived in this place for a little over three years and found it to be a place where healing can occur. My woods and fields are certainly part of this -- offering the natural world in all its beauty. I lost a son just after I moved here and I thank the natural world for helping me find my way again. -- barbara

  28. I just realized I'd failed to mention your wonderful birdhouse! Shame on me, because I love it - its cheerful red door and window trim (or are those shutters?) are so sweet, and it looks so charming and picturesque in the snow. I'm glad you got such a great photo of it since it will soon be enjoying a life indoors. If you'd just bought it somewhere it would be wonderful enough, but the fact your late dad gave it to you makes it even more special.

I hope Lady Jane enjoyed my "mini posts" :-) and I thank you for your compliments. I plan/hope to do my post about Mom's general store in the next two or three months.

  30. It looks calm and bright. Very peaceful. I love the first photo. It is so flat here, I miss hills. Yours are beautiful.

  31. Sheri -- It is a place where you can find peace. The hills are wonderful except when we have ice. -- barbara
