WESTERN WEAR IN AN URBAN CITY

Western wear is still going strong at a store in Portland, Oregon. I took this photo some time ago and thought it portrayed the still on-going culture of the West. Here in this widow display it stands humbly before the reflected high rises of Portland.

    1. Florence -- It was a cold morning when I took this header photo. The mist almost appeared as smoke. It's good to get out in nature. thanks -- barbara

    1. Joanne -- Portland sure has changed from the western garb that was seen in Portland in the early 1900s. thanks -- barbara

    1. turquoisemoon -- I read that the early western outfits worn were second hand clothes as cowboys didn't make a lot of money. thanks -- barbara

    1. One Fly, I noticed his attempt at being a cowboy. Only his clothes are not as authemtic as what the early western cowboys wore. -- thanks -- barbara

    1. Melissa -- Plaids were worn in the early western days. Thanks for spotting the juxtaposition of the plaids with the high rise windows. -- barbara

  6. Lovely header...and yes, getting out in nature is sometimes more of a challenge than expected...what with weather and all. The western wear must still be in demand by those who are working outside daily with horses and cattle, I imagine.

    1. Barbara -- Think you are right. I certainly don't spot the wear in urban areas. But Oregon is a rural state and lots of areas probably have folks that truly wear western wear for work not fashion. -- thanks for the comment on my header. -- barbara

  8. Those boots wouldn't be tough enough for riding the range - and neither, I suspect would the people who'll buy them.

    1. John -- I really have never had any cowboy boots. I know that these boots in the window were very expensive but I don't know if they last long. I know I have seen several folks across the country wearing these types of boots. I think for fashion? -- thanks -- barbara

  9. Nice shot. I used to wear that gear: The boots, the shirts, the jeans. I bought them in the U.S. and wore them in Switzerland, where I lived at the time. My friends envied me, you can bet. My husband wore those cowboy boots for a while, too.

  10. When I first met my husband, he loved his cowboy boots and wore them all the time. He still has them but hasn't put them on in years and years.
