CROOKED BARN DOOR

Crooked barn door

Was 2012 a crooked type of year or not? Crooked in the sense that it was out of sync. It was a year so full of chaos created by politics, weather and wars. Perhaps this year will be calmer -- let's hope so!

Today is the day after New Years and I have made a few resolutions. Basically they are to continue to learn more about photography and computers from my son and by taking a couple classes. Also, to lose a few pounds, read great books, work on my genealogy, write, research, exercise, play fetch everyday with my big male dog sallietomato (Sal) and observe the natural world surrounding my home. Quite ordinary resolutions. Beyond this -- I will roll with whatever the universe has up its sleeve.

I feel that some of you have some interesting resolutions -- would like to hear them if you are willing to reveal!

    1. Birdie, Weight seems to be a popular resolution for the New Years. A different method for me that would really work is take me out to a deserted island and leave me for a couple months -- just be sure to pick me up then. Thanks so much for stopping by and leaving your nice comment. -- barbara

  2. Great picture...glad you're back! Missed you. Really didn't make too many resolutions this year...I never keep them. I do want to start keeping my camera with me at all times. I have a bad habit of leaving it at home and then seeing some fun shots while I'm out and about. Oooh and lose a few pounds...hahaha

    1. turquoisemoon -- Hope you had a great holiday and you have healed well. Good idea to take your camera much of the time. It seems there are always opportunities around here so I have learned to bring my camera along most of the time. Now onward to a new year -- who knows what photos will be there in our future. Thanks for the comment -- barbara

  3. I love your barn photo. I take pictures of old barns whenever I get the chance - they have such character.

I think my resolution for the new year is to reach out for new friendships - it is going to be an interesting year.

    1. JoAnn -- so nice to hear from you -- I know you have had a tough go with your back surgery. Do hope it is healing well. I will look forward to your barn photos in this new year -- they all tell a story. I like your idea of reaching out for new friendships -- one that many of us could practice. Thanks for the comment -- barbara

  4. I've never seen a barn door like that --very odd!
Only resolution is to read a many books as possible. Not a resolution but something I've want to do for a long time and I'm going to start tomorrow, tai chi. My body needs some disciplined movement.

    1. June -- Oh, Tai Chi -- are you an accomplished tai chi person? Or are you planning on taking a class. Would love to take a class someday. Be nice to see a list, on your blog, of your favorite books in 2012, both fiction and non-fiction. It is always refreshing to be introduced to new reads. -- Thanks for the comment. -- barbara

  5. Here you are!
Glad you're back. I have no resolution for the new year. I had thought about resolving to be a kinder person but that seems rather pompous now since being kind should come naturally and not something we resolve to do. I like your resolutions a lot. Sensible things.

    1. Rubye -- I unusually don't make resolutions but I thought I would be safe making the ones I mentioned as they are pretty much what I do from year to year. I like your idea of being kinder -- I think we all should think about that as it would make this world a more peaceful place. Thanks for the nice comment. barbara

    1. Michelle, Good resolutions -- gardening and canning. Always wanted to learn more about canning myself. Don't know now if I'll ever get around to it. I'll just look forward to reading your post on what you are canning in your kitchen. thanks -- barbara

    1. Hattie -- Maybe you will keep your resolution this year -- even if it is only one pound you can say you kept it. Glad to be back with all you bloggers. Did watch your video on your post yesterday about weight -- that was very interesting. Thanks -- barbara

  8. Thanks for your note, Barbara. Later today is my FIRST Tai chi class. I've thought about it for some time. A guy in my writing class does it and wrote a great essay about it. He tells me the teacher where I'm going is good so I'm looking forward. It's not something one can learn on one's own.

I hadn't thought of a list of favorite or best books, maybe I will, good suggestion. I'm glad your mini-vacation from blogging is over.

    1. June -- Oh, so this is your first class. Nice that you got a good reference on your instructor. I did a sample session years ago and loved just that one session. I can imagine that after many sessions one would be very balanced both physically and mentally. Not saying that is what you want to achieve but it is something I would shoot for myself.
      Thanks -- barbara

    I am resolving to~

    1. claggle -- like your "smile often." Do you ever notice that if you smile at a stranger that their face usually lights up immediately. You remind me of June Calendar, a commentator above. Her goal is to read 100 books for the year. I guess your achievement in the photography department would be at least 365 photos a year. Just think what the digital age has done for photography -- no longer do we fuss with limited photos on a film roll -- we can shoot however many we want. thanks -- barbara

  10. Maybe a barn opening? :-)
My main resolution for the new year is not to make any. I can't keep them anyhow ...

    1. RuneE -- that is the way it goes with most of us -- to not keep our resolutions that is. I cheated a bit on my post. Those I listed are ongoing parts of my life so they are not really new. I put them on as I want to continue with them --I felt this would qualify them as resolutions.
