HOLIDAY THOUGHTS AND NATURE

Early this morning I could see the dark clouds in the far distant south. A sign of a rainstorm? As I now do my morning exercises on my small back deck,  I figured I had better wait on breakfast.

I quickly stepped outside, then just as quickly turned around and came right back inside to grab my camera. Now I was not only putting my breakfast off but my exercises too.

Outside was a beautiful sky that fitted my mood. The night moon still hung in the early morning sky. Back lit colors of pink were moving with dark threatening blues.

My thoughts had been pensive when I awoke this morning. Perhaps the holidays makes us reflect on family, those that are still with us and those that have passed.

Yet nature can play such a calming role

And as if there was an understanding between myself and the sky a lone large cloud appeared on the horizon bursting with light.  I put my camera down, sat down in a deck chair and watched the almost white cloud move across my western horizon. I needed it this morning as a companion to settle my thoughts.

  2. turquoisemoon -- the holidays are celebrations. Perhaps that is what we need to do -- celebrate life. -- barbara

  3. Beautiful sky in your photos, from many light ones to the moon to the one white one on the horizon. Gazing at the sky, I believe whether or not it's been proven physiologically, has a serenity few other things have. I wish everyone took time to look up, stop and contemplate as you did.

    1. June -- Early morning and evening skies can be so beautiful. Changing weather patterns during the day can stir up some awesome skies too. I love both the drama and the calming skies no matter the time of day. You probably experience many changing patterns in your sky near the ocean. Early risers can see some magnificent skies. If you have the time -- a chair or just standing watching the morning come awake -- can soothe the soul. thanks -- barbara

  4. The holiday blues come and go for all of us. It's a season to celebrate, but it's also a time of sadness when we think about the times that were and won't ever be again. The holidays are also a time for sharing our feelings, knowing that life is life is life. I like your morning sky pictures and the way you interpret them. Whatever would we do without Our Mother Nature.

    1. Nature Weaver -- I find the holidays a time of contemplation. I know that life is what it is. I find the crassness of the holidays difficult. My celebration is of the life I have led and the people I know and have known. As I head toward the end of the year and the rebirth of the planet in Jan. I turn to Mother Nature to thanks her for all she provides. -- thanks for the nice words.

  5. You captured some beautiful moments this morning. Nature always sets my mood as I am driving to work each morning. It is a drive through the country into our small town. Nothing short of breathtaking in each season.

    1. Michelle -- We are very fortunate to have beautiful country roads to drive into town. The same for me -- I too have beautiful country roads to drive into the small town I live near. KY is certainly a gorgeous state. She gives us great appreciation of nature. -- thanks -- barbara

    1. Hattie -- I wish I knew why so many were assembled in front of that barn in their finer attire. Figure it was maybe a wedding as many were smiling. I do think that aging plays a definite role in appreciating nature. thanks -- barbara

  7. This is why I love the winter months. The trees are bare and the sky becomes more visible and seem so crisp in the colors, not obscured by the leaves of summer.

    1. Diane -- Bare trees are fascinating -- one can see the shapes and bark more easily -- as you comment on. I noticed a small tract of oaks the other day. As you know the oaks keep their dried dark-brown leaves on through the winter. I wish I had a photo of how lovely it was to see the gray-brown skeletal structure with the dangling brown leaves. Skies offer up wonderful backgrounds for tree structures too. thanks -- barbara
