A SIMPLE FALL DAY

Misty morning finds my son
collecting straw out of the old barn to mulch the garden

This morning started out with cool temperatures, gray overcast,  and a misty rain. Very conducive to wrapping yourself in a blanket and reading a book. But, my son  decided to remove the old straw that has been sitting in the worn old barn since I moved in -- a left over present from the former owners. He wheelbarrowed many loads down to the garden and mulched it to bed for the winter.

I made a quinoa and veggie dinner and then we decided to take a long hike with the dogs Sal and Lil.

It was a simple fall day of good company, good food, and good deeds.

  2. What a delightful way to spend a Sunday afternoon! Hope your son is going to stay and spend some time with you! From your blogs it has seemed he very much shares your interests and pursuits of folkways, too!

  3. Your morning sounded delightfully cozy! I love waking up to a snuggly morning like that. Your son is such a good do-bee to have spent it hauling all that old straw to mulch the garden, and your dinner sounds like a delicious reward for all his hard work!

Looks like your misty morning turned into a lovely afternoon, and Sal and Lil are clearly enjoying their hike by the creek immensely! (Our dogs enjoyed a fun hike with us yesterday too, but how they would have loved crunching through those leaves and wading in the creek with your furkids!) :-) That looks like quite a variety of fallen leaves surrounding Lil, and I love those maple leaves. I really miss having maples around, they're one of my very favorite trees.

You definitely seem to have spent a perfect autumn Sunday, thanks for sharing it with us!

  4. Laloofah -- We did have a wonderful autumn day. We actually had to visit the creek area for our walk. We have a creek near our place but it is not so wooded as the one we visited. Most of the leaves are off the trees here. But, with just the few leaves, bare tree branches, and late sunshine, -- it made the walk beautiful. Glad that you were able to get out and walk with your dogs. I don't think dogs care about the scenery just that they get to stretch their legs, roam, and find sticks for their mouths. Thanks for stopping in -- barbara

  5. Jayne, It probably does seem strange to view fall colors when you are in the midst of spring. Perhaps you don't have the vivid fall leaf colors during your fall season. -- barbara

  6. Elora -- Thanks for the comment. My son is contemplating living in KY. He has lived out west for quite some time. I hope your weekend went well and you got some of that rain that trickled through this area. -- barbara
