SMALL TOWN ARCHITECTURAL DOORS -- KENTUCKY

Double set of entrance doors to Cox's Hardware store. In business since 1907. The small town of Mt Vernon's streetscape reflected in their door windows.

Appears to be original entrance door on a vacated storefront business. Tile work entrance also appears to be original. Approximate building age -- 100 plus years.

Commercial entrance door -- 1940s type -- stands empty.

Empty storefront double set of doors. Building architecture is Romanesque style.

Recessed commercial door entrance -- matching wood panels with windows flanking the door. CLOSED

Appears to be original hardware on recessed entrance door above.

  1. Wonderful pictures! My particular small town, Marshall NC, has similar entrance ways. And, miraculously, not as many CLOSED signs as it once had.

  2. Beautiful. I'm always attracted to doors. They're so symbolic.

  3. Hi Vicki and Willow, Wonderful that Mars, NC has viable old storefronts. It must be beautiful to view stores that have been maintained in their original style. Yes, willow, I too am intrigued by parts of historic and vernacular architecture. I like to run my hand over the doors and "feel," the history behind the natural distressing. -- barbara

  4. Love those doors, they hark back to an era where men would hold them open for ladies, when a bell tinkled as they opened to alert shop keepers and when they'd be left unlocked for lack of fear.
