RURAL KENTUCKY FOLK OIL PAINTING

Contemporary folk art oil of early rural farm in Kentucky. Dimensions are 3 feet by 2 feet. Title wrote on bottom of canvas "Living on the Farm." Also signed with artist's signature -- Edna Simpson. Canvas on frame. Found in central Kentucky at a second hand shop, 2009.

These paintings are stunning! I am very interested by folk art made by people in Appalachia. Can you give me any more information on this artist?

Robyn, Edna Simpson sells odds and ends at a place in Berea, Kentucky called the Mini Mall. Once in awhile she brings a piece into the Mini Mall. I would imagine that the mall might be able to tell you more. Thanks for commenting on Folkways! -- barbara

Recently lived in the Appalachian area of the U.S. -- I have now moved to the Pacific Northwest. My blog has covered several years of Appalachian folkways and beginning this year of 2013 will begin to cover the Pacific Northwest. Much of the Pacific Northwest is forested. The Georgia Strait–Puget Sound basin is shared between British Columbia and Washington, and the Pacific temperate rain forests ecoregion, which is the largest of the world's temperate rain forest ecozones in the system created by the World Wildlife Fund, stretches along the coast from Alaska to California. The dryland area inland from the Cascade Range and Coast Mountains is very different from the terrain and climate of the coastal area due to the rain shadow effect of the mountains
